RECI Version 1 Index

Universe

About the Version 1 Universe

RECI Version 1 covers an initial cohort of 100 companies selected as a founding benchmark universe for the launch of the index. The cohort was designed to test the RECI methodology across sectors, geographies, transition contexts, and disclosure environments — not to identify the world's most sustainable companies.

Companies were selected based on climate system relevance, sector and geographic representation, public evidence sufficiency, methodology stress-test value, comparative significance, and review feasibility. The full selection criteria are published on the Methodology page.

Inclusion does not imply endorsement. A company appearing in the RECI universe means it was considered relevant and reviewable under the framework. It does not mean the company is a climate leader. Companies that score Silver or Bronze are being assessed, not praised.

Exclusion does not imply weak performance. Many companies with strong climate practices are not yet in the universe. The Version 1 cohort is deliberately finite — broad enough to be credible, but focused enough to support disciplined adjudication and quality control in a first edition.

The RECI universe will expand and rebalance in future cycles as evidence coverage, adjudication capacity, and regional representation improve.
