Independent Corporate Climate Readiness Benchmark

Beyond disclosure.Inside the operating system.

RECI is an evidence-based index that scores the operational maturity of corporate climate strategy — governance accountability, data infrastructure, financial controls, risk management, and assurance rigour — across 100 of the world's most consequential companies.

Published targets reveal intent. RECI measures whether the internal systems exist to deliver on it.

The problem

Climate disclosure is expanding.Operational comparability is not.

Published targets and policies often reveal little about the internal systems that determine whether commitments will be met. Two companies with identical net-zero pledges can have fundamentally different capacities to deliver.

RECI provides a structured benchmark that evaluates this operational layer — governance accountability, data infrastructure, financial integration, risk management, and assurance rigour — producing a comparable, evidence-based score across sectors and jurisdictions.

Framework

Seven pillars of climate readiness

1

Governance Chassis

Board-level oversight, structural accountability, and executive incentive linkage to climate targets.

2

Data Infrastructure

Granularity, traceability, and digitisation of emissions data collection and reporting systems.

3

Financial Controls

Internal carbon pricing, dedicated sustainability budgets, and capital allocation alignment.

4

Operational Linkage

Integration of climate objectives into procurement, maintenance, training, and daily operations.

5

Risk Radar

Physical and transition risk identification, scenario analysis, and TCFD-aligned disclosure maturity.

6

Assurance Depth

Rigour of third-party verification — distinguishing Limited from Reasonable Assurance.

7

Transparency & Disclosure

CDP participation, TCFD/ESRS indexing, and machine-readable data accessibility.

Differentiation

Systems maturity, not disclosure quality

Most sustainability frameworks evaluate what organisations report. RECI evaluates whether the systems behind those reports are mature enough to deliver on stated commitments.

A company may publish strong climate targets while lacking the governance discipline, data environment, or financial alignment to execute them. RECI makes that gap visible by scoring structural maturity on a five-level scale across all seven pillars.

1
Initial
No formal process; reactive only
2
Emerging
Intent exists but informal or inconsistent
3
Established
Documented processes, assigned ownership
4
Integrated
Embedded in operations with executive accountability
5
Optimised
Continuous improvement, Reasonable Assurance, automated MRV
