AIA Group Limited
AIA Group Limited is a regional-leadership but global-infrastructure-gap case — the first Asian insurer adjudicated and the strongest in its regional peer group, but constrained by incomplete global infrastructure. AIA holds genuine firsts: first major Asian insurer to fully divest from coal (~US$10B, Oct 2021), first pan-Asian life insurer with SBTi-validated targets (2023, 1.5°C), first pan-Asian insurer to publish a Climate Transition Plan (Nov 2023), and mandatory CFA ESG certification for all investment staff. 100% ESG Rating Scorecard coverage on directly managed assets; US$38.4B in sustainable investments; MSCI AA (4 years); Sustainalytics 11.3 Low Risk. However, financed emissions cover only 55% of AUM (the dominant emission source at 99.25% of total footprint), CDP remains at B (Management, not Leadership), no internal carbon price is disclosed, and P4 is structurally constrained by financial-sector rubric misfit (third insurer/bank at L3 after TD and UBS). Not an NZAOA member despite ~US$286B AUM.
